The Alchemy supports the development of new theatrical works and productions through:
- Creating Alchemy original works of musical theatre and ritual theatre: including Cinderfella and Houdini’s Last Seance.
- Hosting performances, readings, and rehearsals of other performers to develop their works: including a reading of David Rodwin's original one man show Total Novice, and rehearsal for Chalk Rep’s innovative, intimate production of Sam Shepherds Fool for Love, a public performance of Derek Wright's Winds of Change incorporating world music and dance.
- Hosting backers' auditions: An important step in the life of virtually every piece of music theatre is an unstaged or semistaged reading in a lovely house that gets the work in front of potential investors. In addition to the beautiful setting The Castle provides, it also features a small stage with full theatrical tech, as well as the The Alchemy’s network of theatre professionals. We were proud to host a backers audition of DiPietro, Vigoda, & Milburn's Ernest Shackleton Loves Me.
- Creating community Seasonal Rituals (like Rite of Spring and Winter Solstice) and variety shows like the Alchemist's Salon, which bring together excerpts of existing and new theatrical works and music.
